About OLI
OLI was born in central Ukraine in 1972. She studied art and music at KDPU University in the city of Kryvyi Rih, Ukraine, where she refined her creative skills and began shaping her distinctive artistic language. Simultaneously, she played the piano for over a decade—a practice that had a marked influence on her artistic outlook.
Her work is characterised by the use of diverse materials—wood, plastic, 3D paints, modelling, and more—which enables her to perpetually experiment and test the boundaries of her artistic practice. In her three-dimensional pieces, and especially in her hallmark cube works, OLI places considerable emphasis on the interplay of light and shadow, enriching each piece with a kinetic quality and altering its perception from various angles.
Within the sphere of pixelism, she has developed a unique style that highlights the use of colour, geometric structures, and kinetic visual movement, providing viewers with a dynamic experience.
Her creative process commences with an intuitive decision regarding the subject she will design, often inspired by childhood memories, personal experiences, or popular icons that spark an emotional connection. This is followed by a planning phase, wherein colours, cube angles, and overall harmony become central elements. Whilst she endeavours to remain faithful to the original theme, she also seeks to infuse it with her personal interpretation—one that kindles the imagination and allows each viewer to engage with the work in their own way, attributing it with individual meaning.
The act of creation itself demands patience—precise colour mixing, painting each cube individually (occasionally in over 50 shades), and only then affixing them to an aluminium surface. Right up to the final moment, as the cubes coalesce into a cohesive artwork, OLI continues to evaluate the result and make refinements until she achieves the perfect balance—though, like any artist, she invariably retains a trace of doubt.
In the past, she taught piano alongside her artistic endeavours, but as interest in her creations grew and she received enthusiastic responses from audiences, she chose to devote herself entirely to art. She does not aspire to convey a philosophical message or define a worldview; rather, she aims to create a visual and emotional experience that resonates with viewers, fosters a personal connection, and encourages an intuitive response.
Her works have been exhibited in galleries and art fairs worldwide, including—among others—Miami, New York, Detroit, London, Dubai, Shenzhen (China), and beyond.
